Main Project features
To investigate and assess new ancillary service (AS) Products and Services to support Eskom system operator (SO) during energy transition. To conduct these studies to investigate the various AS products System and Market Operators around the globe have adopted and developed to support power systems during the energy transition. To design and recommend possible AS products and services that Eskom could adopt or implement for the South African power system.

Activities performed:
- Investigation of Energy Transition and Impacts on Ancillary Services
- Investigation of New Ancillary Services and Products used by Sytem Operators globally (ERCOT, CAISO, AEMO, EirGrid & SONI, TENNET, Japannes – TSO)
- Different Pricing and and Costing models developed by Systen and Market Operators around the globe.
- Design of new AS products and services that will assist in alleviating system services problems posed by the energy transition in South Africa.
Recommendations of new AS products with pricing models for the Eskom System Operator to implement on the SA transmission system.
