Main Project features

The proposed 20 MW BESS with 30 MWh storage capacity will be integrated into the ESCOM power system network at Kanengo substation. The main objective of the task was to determine the primary frequency settings in DigSilent for the 20 MW BESS with 30 MWh storage capacity and determine a voltage control philosophy

Position held: Engineering Consultancy

Activities performed:

  • Undertake a Primary Frequency Response (PFR) study to determine the proposed BESS settings
  • Recommend suitable PFR/Fast Frequency Response (FFR) settings for BESS deployment in the ESCOM power system network
  • Undertake a voltage control study to investigate the impact of BESS at Kanengo Substation
  • Recommend appropriate voltage control settings for BESS integration at Kanengo
